We're all set, we already use someone: SDR guide
The short answer
Do not argue with the tool. Ask what the current vendor does well, what it does not cover, and when the contract is up. Name a real date and a real gap, and you have a reason for a short call. If the buyer says nothing is missing, ask to follow up near renewal and leave kindly.
Take this call against an AI buyerWhy buyers say it
A buyer who already has a tool that mostly works has no problem to solve. A new vendor means a switch, a pilot and a risk. They say it to end the call quickly and to protect the time of a stretched team.
How reps lose the deal on it
- They say "we are better than them" and list features. The buyer has no reason to check.
- They ask who the buyer uses and then trash the answer. The buyer defends the tool.
- They accept "we are set" and never ask when the contract ends. The one date that matters is never learned.
Stronger lines to say
- “That’s good to hear. What does the tool do well, and is there one thing your team still does by hand?”
- “When does the contract come up? I won’t call before then unless you want me to.”
- “I’m not asking you to replace it. I’m asking if there’s one gap I could close alongside it. Is there?”
Questions reps ask about it
How do I ask which vendor without sounding like I am fishing?
Say why: it keeps you from pitching what they already have. If they will not name it, ask what it does well and what it does not, and move on.
How do I close the call when the buyer really is happy with the tool?
Say so, ask for the renewal date, and leave the door open. A note near the renewal is more useful than another call now. Do not push a gap that is not there. A buyer who was let go gracefully picks up the next time.
How do I use a renewal date without being a pest?
Write it down with what the buyer told you, and reach out once, a couple of months before, with something specific to the gap they named. One note, one offer of a short call. If the renewal passed and they stayed, ask what changed and when the next one is.
