We don't have budget for this right now: SDR guide

Objection guide: B2B SaaS SDR. Updated .

The short answer

Do not push on price. Ask when budget is set, who owns it, and what the team spends time or money on today that this could replace. Find out whether this is no money, no priority or a polite exit. Then ask for a date, not a meeting. A real budget answer gives you one.

Why buyers say it

No budget is the cleanest reason to end a call, because it blames a number nobody can argue with. Sometimes it is true. Sometimes it means the buyer sees no reason to spend, and the seller has to find out which.

How reps lose the deal on it

  1. They offer a discount before they know the budget. They teach the buyer to say "no budget" every time.
  2. They say "I understand" and hang up. They never learn when budget opens.
  3. They argue that the cost is small. The buyer decides how important it is, not the rep.

Stronger lines to say

  • “Understood. When does budget get set for next year, and who owns it? I’d rather call at the right time than too early.”
  • “Is it a budget issue, or is this not a priority this year? Either answer helps me, and I won’t take it personally.”
  • “What’s the team spending time or money on today for this? If it’s a lot, I might show you a way to move it, not add to it.”

Questions reps ask about it

How do I tell a real budget problem from a polite no?

Ask when budget is set and who owns it. A real constraint comes with a date and a name. A polite no gets vague. Either answer tells you what to do next.

Should I offer a lower price?

Not on the first call. A cut before you understand the need teaches the buyer to say no budget every time. First find the gap and the timing. Then bring in terms.

Can this come out of an existing budget line?

Sometimes. Ask what the team pays today for the tool, the contractor or the hours this would replace. If the money already moves, you are talking about shifting it, not finding new budget. Say that plainly and ask who owns that line. Do not invent savings you cannot show.
